Cathal has over 20 years’ experience in delivering ICT services in the public sector. He has a keen interest in Cyber Security, Project Management and Data Centre Management. A former Irish Defence Forces Army Officer, Cathal has served in a variety of appointments abroad in Lebanon, Kosovo and Serbia. In 2008 Cathal joined Trinity College Dublin, The University of Dublin and is currently the ICT Facilities Manager in IT Services. Part of his role encompasses managing the team responsible for the wired and wireless networks, communication rooms and data centres and telephony services. In 2012 an award winning bespoke ‘Green Data Centre’ was designed and built by Future-tech. Approaching its notional ‘half-life’ and in an era of Climate Change, Cathal is reviewing the current use of the Data Centre with a view to seeing what further developments can be made – in particular in relation to energy efficiency and the feasibility or otherwise of using renewable energy technologies to partly meet the power consumption demands of the Data Centre.
